What special education looks like at DOUGLAS....
We have several special education classes at Douglas Creative Arts & Science Magnet School. We have a Pre-K class, a Cross Categorical Kindergarten class, and three full-time Cross Categorical Resource special education teachers on staff. The special education teachers consult with regular education teachers and provide direct special education services to students with diagnosed disabilities who are found to be in need of special education. We serve students in grades in Pre–K, and grades K-5, providing support to students with behavioral and/or academic needs.
What is Cross Categorical Resource or CCR?
Cross Categorical classes are designed to serve special needs students (ED, SLD, OHI, TBI, ID/Mild, AU) in their base school. The students assigned to CC classes are primarily mildly disabled students who need a small teacher/pupil ratio to learn academic skills. The educational focus in the CC separate class is on the acquisition of the basic reading, writing, and math skills that the student needs in order to be successful in the Standard Course of Study. The CC student is assigned to special classes according to his or her IEP.
